Tomlinson, professor of chemistry in the College of Science and Mathematics, was invited to submit a manuscript for the journal's special issue honoring women in chemical physics and physical chemistry. The journal is a publication of the .

"This is the first time I was invited as the main author," she said, explaining she had been invited several times before as part of a collaborative group. "It was nice to be recognized at that level, especially since I teach at a primarily undergraduate institution. Most of those invited will be from R-1 institutions."

Tomlinson's paper, "Guiding Synthetic Targets of Anodically Coloring Electrochromes Through Density Functional Theory," is the first of two accepted for publication in 2021. The second paper titled "Exploring Isomeric Effects on Optical and Electrochemical Properties" will be published in , a journal of the .
