Nighthawk Previews at the University of North Georgia (ÎçÒ¹¿ì²¥) offer a unique "choose your own pathway" open house opportunity for prospective undergraduate students. Spring sessions are planned for February through April on all five ÎçÒ¹¿ì²¥ campuses.

During the previews, prospective students choose sessions to attend based on the information most relevant to them. For example, students interested in living in residence halls will have the option to visit those facilities.

Nathan Rice, associate director of admissions for recruitment, knows this makes the previews a more personal experience for students and their families.

"We hope that attendees come away with a clear sense of what ÎçÒ¹¿ì²¥ has to offer academically and socially, and with an understanding and appreciation for the culture that is present on each campus," he said. "Selecting a college is such a monumental choice and process in these students' lives, and we want to provide them with all of the information possible about life as a Nighthawk."

ÎçÒ¹¿ì²¥ offers sessions surrounding admissions, language programs, student involvement, financial aid, Honors Program, study abroad, and transferring to one of the five campuses. On the Dahlonega Campus, sessions are held about housing and meal plans and the ÎçÒ¹¿ì²¥. Additionally, the Gainesville Campus offers sessions in Spanish.

Prospective students also hear from current students through various Q&A panels. Rice wants high school students to ask about college life and what comes after high school.

"We hope that families who attend Nighthawk Preview come with questions about the college search process and a readiness to learn what makes each of our campuses so special," he said.

Nighthawk Previews aren't just limited to students in high school, however. Rice said anyone who is interested in an undergraduate degree may come and learn about ÎçÒ¹¿ì²¥'s campus cultures.

"At our Gainesville Nighthawk Preview, we offer sessions specifically for transfer students as well as sessions for veteran and adult learners," he said. "And at the Dahlonega Nighthawk Preview, we offer an intimate session with transfer students where our representatives can connect with nontraditional students."

In the fall, more than 1,400 prospective students attended Nighthawk Preview dates. Rice expects that number to increase this spring.

Times and dates for each Nighthawk Preview are:

  • Feb. 22: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Dahlonega
  • March 7: 9 a.m. to noon in Oconee
  • March 28: 10 a.m. to noon in Blue Ridge
  • April 18: 10 a.m. to noon in Cumming
  • April 25: 9 a.m. to noon in Gainesville
